The We Love Where We Live initiative grew from Mason City's Pride in Place survey, which invited residents to share what they value most about their community, identify opportunities for improvement, and offer ideas for building a stronger Mason City.

Building on that feedback, community members participated in a Community Conversations event to help develop a community culture statement reflecting our collective identity, shared values, and aspirations for the future.

The resulting statement captures both what makes Mason City special today and the community we aspire to become:

“In Mason City, we celebrate the history that grounds us, create a place where people choose to belong, and build for the future by thinking boldly and taking action.”

These words align closely with the mission of Main Street Mason City and the principles that guide downtown revitalization.

Celebrate the history that grounds us. Our historic buildings, architecture, and cultural heritage give Mason City a distinctive identity. Preserving these assets honors our past while creating opportunities for adaptive reuse, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Create a place where people choose to belong. Welcoming public spaces, locally owned businesses, community events, and meaningful connections create a sense of place that encourages people to visit, stay, and put down roots.
