Some of Downtown Mason City's most fascinating stories are hidden behind doors that aren't always open to the public.
On Saturday, October 17th, 2026, the Haunted Historic Building Tour returns for another evening of exploring the history, mystery, and character of downtown's historic buildings.
Enjoy this unique opportunity to step inside remarkable spaces, hear stories passed down through generations, and discover the people, events, and legends that have helped shape Mason City's downtown.
Each stop offers a glimpse into the past, giving participants access to places they may never have seen before while uncovering the rich history within these historic walls.
The evening kicks off at 6:00 PM with an exclusive Cocktail Reception, featuring delicious drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and a special presentation revealing the historical backgrounds of this year’s featured buildings. It’s the perfect time to mingle with fellow guests and get into a haunted mindset before the real adventure begins.
At 7:00 PM, guests will break into groups and begin the guided tour. The buildings included on the tour remain top secret until the night of the event, adding an extra layer of excitement. At each stop, guests will step inside one of Mason City’s historic downtown buildings and hear a tale straight from a “spirit” tied to its past.
The evening concludes with a Dessert Reception at the final mystery location—complete with spooky ambiance and sweet treats. Whether you're a history buff, ghost story lover, or just looking for a memorable night out, this event is not to be missed!
