Lighting the Way to a New Downtown Holiday Tradition
Imagine strolling through Downtown Mason City on a crisp winter evening. Central Park is glowing. Families stop for photos beneath sparkling lights. The Federal Avenue Pedestrian Plaza shines just a little brighter. Holiday displays lead you toward Southbridge Mall, along the Riverwalk, and ultimately to The Music Man Square, where the beloved “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” holiday exhibit celebrates Mason City’s special connection to the season.
That’s the vision behind Main Street Mason City’s Holiday Lights Project.
Our goal is bigger than simply adding holiday decorations. We want to create a memorable holiday experience that encourages people to explore Downtown Mason City, make memories together, and discover something new around every corner.
The long-term vision is to create a connected holiday experience stretching from Central Park to the Federal Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, Southbridge Mall, the Riverwalk, and The Music Man Square.
Along the way, visitors could discover beautiful lighted installations, festive décor, memorable photo opportunities, and special touches that celebrate the places and stories that make Mason City unique.
It’s an opportunity to create something that feels unmistakably Mason City.
Creating Moments Worth Remembering
Holiday traditions are often built around simple moments: taking the annual family photo, bringing the kids downtown to see the lights, meeting friends for dinner before a walk through the displays, or returning to a favorite spot year after year.
We want Downtown Mason City to become part of those traditions.
By creating inviting spaces and memorable holiday photo opportunities throughout the district, the Holiday Lights Project can encourage residents and visitors to spend more time downtown exploring local businesses, enjoying restaurants and entertainment, and experiencing our community during one of the most magical times of the year.
This project isn't intended to be completed in a single season.
Our objective is to start, grow, and build upon the experience year after year, adding new lights, installations, decorations, and destinations as funding allows.
Each year can bring something new to discover while favorite displays become traditions people look forward to seeing again.
Over time, our vision is to create a signature holiday experience that draws people Downtown, supports local businesses, celebrates community pride, and gives visitors another reason to experience Mason City during the holiday season.
