History

Founded in 1985

Visit Mason City serves as the official destination marketing organization for Mason City, Iowa. The team is committed to showcasing the unique charm of North Iowa. Established in 1985, the organization was born out of a collective vision by local leaders and business owners who recognized the need to promote Mason City's rich cultural heritage, architectural treasures, and scenic landscapes to a broader audience.

In its early days, Visit Mason City focused on highlighting the city's historical significance, particularly its association with Frank Lloyd Wright, whose Prairie School designs had left an indelible mark on the area. The bureau worked tirelessly to preserve and promote these architectural gems, positioning Mason City as a must-visit destination for architecture enthusiasts.

As the organization grew, so did its mission. Embracing a holistic approach to tourism, Visit Mason City expanded its efforts to include the promotion of local festivals, culinary experiences, outdoor adventures, and the vibrant arts scene. Collaborating with local businesses, cultural institutions, and community groups, the bureau developed a comprehensive strategy to attract visitors year-round.

Through persistent marketing campaigns, strategic partnerships, and a passion for storytelling, Visit Mason City has successfully elevated the city's profile on a national and international stage. Today, it continues to serve as the gateway for visitors, providing invaluable resources and insights to ensure that everyone who comes to Mason City can fully experience its unique offerings and warm hospitality.
